Christopher Page (b.1984) explores the boundaries between light, shadow, and reflection, creating paintings that hover between illusion and abstraction. His trompe l’oeil works - painted on canvas or directly onto architectural surfaces - simulate framed paintings, windows, and mirrors, disorienting our perception of depth and reality. Page’s work refocuses our attention on our everyday visual landscape, where artifice abounds and the legacy of Modernism repeatedly collapses into trompe l’oeil deceptions.
Recent exhibitions include Bar Far (with Clementine Keith-Roach), Villa Lontana, Rome, Italy; The Work of Fire (with Clementine Keith-Roach), Alkinois, Athens, Greece; Full Haus: The Seeld Library, MOCA storefront, Los Angeles, USA; Wonder and Wakefulness: The Nature of Pliny the Elder, Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University, New York, USA; Earth Sky Body Ruins (with Clementine Keith- Roach), Ben Hunter, London, UK; Fading Light in the Picture Gallery, Dirimart, Istanbul; Christopher Page: Blind Gallery, Museu de Arte Moderna, Rio de Janeiro; Knots (with Clementine Keith-Roach), P.P.O.W., New York, USA; Present Tense, Hauser and Wirth, Somerset, UK; Painting Stone, Villa Lontana, Rome, Italy; and Picturesque, Baert Gallery, Los Angeles, USA.
Page is a co-founder and editor of Effects, a journal of art, poetry, and essays.
